THE CHARITY FUNDING WORTHWHILE CAUSES IN MEDWAY
Home
What is The Streetcops Trust and what do we do?

Mark Pearson, Rob Jackson and Angela Prodger formed the Streetcops Trust in 2005 after they realised that many opportunities that would improve the communities they served were being missed or forced to end due to funding problems.

Charities or possible funding sources within Kent Police and Medway Council were difficult to access; application forms were too bureaucratic and it took too long for funding to reach groups when it was granted.

The concept is simple: give neighbourhood officers the opportunity to support initiatives by applying for small amounts of money (up to £500) on the community’s behalf which will be awarded quickly and not bog the officer down with extensive form filling.

Neighbourhood officers are the conduit between the community and The Streetcops Trust.  They have no involvement in funding decisions nor handle money granted.  They are also a quality control measure, as they should only apply on behalf of initiatives they believe are worthy and of benefit.

Recent examples of money granted are:

£460 to purchase foam footballs to support the ball exchange initiative by Kent Police in Medway – reducing damage to property and noise complaints relating to playing football

£500 to The Good Intent Pub Club towards a one day project at the Arethusa Centre – youth diversion work aimed at Team Building and Sense of Community

£350 to Medkwai Judo Club at St Mary's Island Community Centre which has been fund raising to purchase new mats - Health, Well Being & Self Discipline

We were awarded charitable status in September 2009.

The Streetcops Trust gives something back to the community and supports the police in the work that they cannot otherwise usually carry out.
