The Medway Neighbourhood Watch Association was well represented at the above Conference by no less than 15 NW Coordinators. As the title suggests there were many views on, and ways to tackle
anti-social behaviour. What do we mean by a “Gang of Youths, a group of youths, or a gathering of youths. Do they all cause trouble. The answer is no.
Is Parking on the pavement, loud music being played from a house, rubbish left on the front or excessive arguments any less of a problem.
Drinking on the Streets was already being targeted AND HAS DECREASED.
Although it was agreed that the 17-25 yr age-group probably caused the most problems albeit, only about 3% actually were responsible.
It was agreed that “One Size Fits All” for areas did not work
as different areas would require a different approach.
With the” Economic Downturn” we can expect crime to rise a little and 25,000 extra people visit the Medway Towns each Week-End.
Our present population is approx 243,000 and is expected to rise to 300,000 by 2020.
The present economy of Medway is worth 2.8 billion per year. The Police have 2500 less reported incidents than last year. 2607 untaxed vehicles were taken from off the Streets
Fireworks and “Snowballs” were always a problem.
There are now 418 cctv cameras working over Medway and the Council
cleared 2096 areas of Graffiti .Recorded damage to property was down
by 11.4%.
The main question was what can we do about all kinds of anti-social behaviour incidents.
Report these incidents but do not expect instant response.......................MORE
